Natural Remedies for Dry Nose
A cold wet nose is a good thing on a snuggly pup! If you notice your dog has a bit of a dry nose, it may be nothing – but if it becomes a chronic or recurring issue, how do you treat doggie dry nose? Scan these common reasons for dry nose for a clue into your pup’s situation.
Why is Your Dog’s Nose Dry?
Winter Nose: Cold, dry weather (indoors or outdoors) can dry out your pup’s nose quickly; this chapped feeling is also called “snow nose.” A dry nose can also be a symptom of aging.
Dehydration: Dehydration can definitely cause dry nose. Keep clean fresh water in a stainless steel or ceramic bowl; plastic can become an irritant for your dog. Don’t forget to pause for water breaks during playtime either.
Allergies: Allergies can cause quite a bit of discomfort in your pup. Frequent sneezing may clue you in to the indoor irritants in your home; dust mites and mold are common offenders. Excessive sneezing and breathing in these irritants can dry out and crack your dog’s nose.
Indoor Heat: The warmth that heats your house may be drying out your pup’s nose. If your dog likes to cozy up on a heating vent or near a heater, he is likely to wake up with a cracked nose. Even central heating can dry out the air as well as your dog’s nose.
Wet Weather: The tender skin on your dog’s nose will crack more easily if it’s wet during times of freezing temperatures.
Sunburn: That’s right – dogs can get a little sunburned on their tender noses!
