Midwestern Pet Foods has announced a voluntary recall due to possible salmonella health risk on a selection of their products produced in their Monmouth, IL facility, including certain dry dog and cat food formulas from Earthborn Holistic and Earthborn Venture. Please review this notice from Midwestern Pet Foods to learn more about the lot codes affected by this recall.

If you are feeding Earthborn Holistic or Earthborn Venture currently, please review the list of recalled lot numbers below to confirm whether your purchase is a part of the recall. If you believe you purchased a product on this list, please discontinue feeding and contact us to receive a refund. If the lot number on your bag does not match, there is no need to discard your pet food.

How can salmonella affect my pet or myself?

Please note that no human or pet illnesses have been reported to date.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Fever

Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may display the following symptoms:

  • Lethargy
  • Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite
  • Abdominal pain

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
